Homeschool Art Program

We have many homeschool students in our afternoon and evening courses, but also offer a dedicated day program for our homeschool community!

About the Program -

Our Homeschool Art Program offers a thoughtfully crafted curriculum that encourages young learners to explore a variety of artistic disciplines. Through activities such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, and more, children engage in hands-on experiences that are both enjoyable and educational. This program is designed to nurture curiosity, develop artistic skills, and foster critical thinking through the creative arts.

Progressive Learning -

At Cultivate, we guide students through their artistic journey with a child-centered approach that nurtures confidence, creativity, and a love for learning. Our progression system is designed to honor each student's unique path and pace, encouraging exploration and self-expression through art.

Level A (Beginner) courses focus on foundational techniques and concepts, allowing students to explore and experiment with various materials and methods in a supportive environment. As they move to Level B (Intermediate), students are encouraged to delve deeper into more complex techniques, building on their skills and beginning to find their unique voice. In Level C (Advanced), students are invited to master their craft through projects that challenge their thinking, promote self-reflection, and encourage independent expression.

For Students: Our approach nurtures artistic skills and promotes curiosity, problem-solving, and a deep understanding of the creative process. Each course adapts to meet students where they are, fostering a sense of autonomy and helping them set and pursue their personal artistic goals.

For Parents and Guardians: You'll see your child's growth not just in their artwork, but in their curiosity, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning. Our flexible, developmental approach allows you to observe their progress through clear, natural milestones, ensuring they are continuously inspired and engaged at a level that suits their interests and abilities. This fosters a love for the arts that extends beyond the classroom and into everyday life.

 

Recognition and Celebration:

Learning Documentation: Students receive documentation of their learning journey after each class, highlighting their discoveries, achievements, and areas of growth.

Art Celebrations: We regularly host art celebrations where students share their creations with family and friends, fostering a sense of community and pride. 

Milestones of Growth: Each course includes organic milestones to reflect on and celebrate progress, ensuring students feel proud of their journey and motivated to continue exploring their creativity.

Homeschool Fiber Arts Studio

This program is designed to introduce homeschool students to the foundational skills and techniques of fiber arts. Each week, participants will explore a variety of methods, such as weaving, knitting, felting, and embroidery, allowing them to engage with different forms of textile art.

The class offers a comprehensive introduction to fiber arts, encouraging students to experiment with various materials and techniques in a hands-on environment. Instruction will focus on developing fine motor skills, understanding patterns and textures, and learning the cultural and historical significance of fiber arts. Every session includes practical activities and projects that reinforce these techniques, providing a nurturing space where students can explore their creativity and gain confidence in their artistic abilities.

Weekly Sessions

Course Day: Wednesdays
Course Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Location: Cultivate, 620 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids, MI

Note: This is not a drop-in experience. Sessions start promptly at 1:00 PM. Please arrive 15 minutes early to settle in.

Admission is $10 to cover supplies and support the artist facilitator. Register at the door or in advance.
